(B)  Royal Burgundy (2007)

(Pro.)This purple bean was sweeter tasting than the green and we enjoyed eating them raw. (Con.) Production wasn’t as good as the green.

(S) Jacob’s Cattle (2007 )

Shell beans were suppose to have white speckles on the red beans but didn’t.  The beans were also small so it looks like a fertilizer issue.

(P) Miralda (2007 & 2008)

Pole bean with flattened irregular pods had a great nutty flavor that market customers liked.

Summer 2007 WOW were these good!  A little drier and milder than Diva but good keeping quality and so pretty sliced with their scalloped edges.

Lemon (2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-round, yellow.  These were in demand we just didn’t have very good production.

Diva (Treated)

Summer 2007 Best producer of the slicing cucs with thin skin, burpless and good flavor.

Bush Champion (2007)

Summer 2007- will replace with Diva in 2008

Burpee Hybrid II (2007)

Summer 2007- will replace with Diva in 2008

Eggplant:

 

Fairy Tale F1 (2007)

Summer 2007-purple/white striped fruits were very decorative but small.  Mild flavor with few seeds but will probably not replant in 2008.

Tango F1 (W) (2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-white, smooth flesh, not bitter.  This was very popular with our customers.

Little Fingers (2007)

Summer 2007-purple, long & narrow.  This variety is very similar to Orient Express but doesn’t produce as heavily.  Will probably replace with Orient Express in 2008.

Orient Express (2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-dark purple, long, narrow fruits start earlier than Little Fingers.  Good flavor, not bitter.

Rosa Bianca (2007)

Summer 2007-lovely pink and white round Italian

Beatrice (2008)

Summer 2008 – round, bright violet fruits similar flavor to Rosa Bianca but earlier production.

Early summer 2007 we set out transplants for this and it was a winner in flavor and color so will return

Summer 2007 Beautiful plant and pods with great value in edible landscaping.  Good flavor but production was not as great as green varieties.

Cajun Delight (2007)

Summer 2007 Excellent cultivar with good side branching and heavy production.  Personally preferred this variety to Clemson Spineless.

 

Clemson Spineless (2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007 This is a cultivar with good production.  We will use up the rest of our seed in 2008.

Summer 2007-sweet heart pimento produced lots of sweet, thick walled fruits.  Repeat in 2008

Summer 2007-Ancho/Poblano chili was a heavy producer of 4’’ long fruit with good flavor & medium heat.  Plants get tall & need support in wind. Repeat.

Figaro (SP)

Summer 2007- red sweet pimento pepper; last of seed

Vidi (SR)

Summer 2007-red Italian sweet pepper; last of seed

Giant Marconi Hybrid (SP)

(2008)

Summer 2008 to replace Vidi large tapered fruits with smokey flavor good green or red, fresh or grilled

Golden Bell

Summer 2007-yellow bell pepper was not impressive

Canary Belle Pepper (2008)

Summer 2008 free trial seed said to be sweet and excellent used fresh or cooked in recipes

Mini Belle Mix (2008)

Summer 2008 Tiny bell peppers 1 ¼” with sweet, thick, flavorful flesh; green, yellow & red.  How about stuffing with herbed cheese & using for appetizers?

Summer 2007- great salsa pepper with excellent chili flavor and medium heat; repeat 2008

Summer 2007-mild green chili, great roasted; last of seed.

Sahuaro (2008)

Mild Green Chili

Summer 2008 Traditional, semi-flattened fruits for roasting, chile rellenos, and stir fries. Produce early.

Summer 2007-good producer of sweet, mild Hungarian type peppers

Hot Hungarian Yellow (2007)

Summer 2007-medium hot, good pickling; will not plant for 2008

Spring 2008-Heirloom variety with cream colored outside and brilliant pink flesh; crisp, mild and even a little sweet; mimics tiny watermelon when cut open.

Spring 2008 classic savoy-leafed spinach with tasty thick, dark green leaves

Malabar Red Stem

(2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-climbing spinach with red stems was a show stopper in the garden growing to 6’ with tasty leaves all through the heat of summer into fall.  It will definitely be back!  Seed will be available.

Our 2007 crop did not do well, between the wet spring and the squash bugs and vine borers that came during summer.

Summer 2007-dark green, slightly tapered, medium size; no seed remaining

Summer 2007-dark green, shiny round, best picked when 2-3” in diameter.  Will repeat in 2008.

Mutipick (S) Y/Straightneck

(2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-yellow straight neck with high yield; good producer of male blossom buds for cooking.

Zephyr (S) Yellow/Green

(2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-yellow, green-tip straight neck; harvest at 4-6” for unusually delicious nutty taste & firm texture; will try again in 2008

Cornell’s Bush Delicata (W)

Fall 2008-white with green stripes, sweet winter squash

Gold Nugget, Kabocha (W)

Fall 2007-bright orange for baking, mashing & pies; plant was gorgeous with lots of nice fruits when the bugs got it; will try again in 2008.

Summer 2007-large Italian paste tomato with good acid balance and flavor; unbelievable production but suffered from blossom end rot; amend soil for 2008.

Cherokee Purple

(2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-large heirloom with outstanding flavor; one gentleman said it was the best **** tomato he’d ever tasted!  Production fell off in the heat but will plant again for 2008.

Early Cascade (2007)

Summer 2007-medium to small truss tomato; good yield but people wanted larger tomatoes. Not repeat.

Early Girl (2007)

Summer 2007-medium red; good yield; see above

New Girl (2008)

Summer 2008-better tasting and more disease resistant than Early Girl which it will replace in 2008.

Celebrity (Semi Determinate)

(2007 & 2008)

Summer 2007-8 oz. red fruits with good flavor; we will plant more of these in 2008.

Goliath (2007)

Summer 2007-good slicing tomato but production was not very good: will not repeat in 2008.

Hard Rock (2007)

Summer 2007-testing, good fruit set early; production was poor in heat; will not repeat in 2008

Oxheart Orange (2008)

Summer 2008-3” meaty, with a delicious well-balanced flavor; vibrant orange color

Big Beef Hybrid (2008)

Summer 2008-large fruits with old-fashioned, rich flavor.

Arkansas Traveler (2008)

Summer 2008-Heirloom variety with medium sized fruits and mild flavor; adaptable to our climate

Sun Gold (2008)

Summer 2008-orange fruits with intense flavor

Yellow Pear (2007)

Summer 2007-low acidity with mild flavor; cracked badly in heat; will not replant in 2008

Gold Nugget (2008)

Determinate variety

Summer 2008-determinate variety with 1” oval fruits; resistant to cracking.

Sweet 100 (2007)

Summer 2007-small fruits with sugary taste; good production but cracked badly; will not repeat 2008

Sweet Olive Grape Tomato (2008)

Determinate variety

Summer 2008-strong tolerance to heat, humidity, and cracking; bright red & bursting with flavor

Tomatillos:

Purple (2007)

Unsure if planting 2008

Summer 2007-purple blush, good for salsa; this variety didn’t yellow out as much as the two following. 

Mexican Strain (2007)

Unsure if planting 2008

Summer 2007-green, used in traditional Mexican salsa; there was a demand for these but the plants did not do well.  Possibly needed more nitrogen. 

Pineapple (2007)

Unsure if planting in 2008

Summer 2007-used for pies, preserves, salsa; plant leaves yellowed out early and harvesting was labor intensive because of the small fruits; it was popular and people asked for it.  The plants are weedy looking.
